David and Betty Sims founded WS Electrical & Air Conditioning, Inc. at our present-day location at 1302 Central Parkway in Decatur, Alabama. Prior to that, David had spent his early years performing commissioning and startup for Worthington Manufacturing, a manufacturer of large HVAC equipment.

Jeff Black started to work for David, his father-in-law. At the time, the business primarily focused on TVA residential construction. Jeff wore many hats then, working for the small business as an installer, salesperson, planner, and project manager.

Jeff and his wife, Amy, purchased the business from David and Betty in 2006. By this time, the direction of the business had moved into commercial and industrial ventilation and HVAC. Jeff had a vision of growth, and significantly expanded the shop’s capabilities by adding the equipment, technology, and specialists for plasma cutting, coil lines, and iron-working. The HVAC service department experienced similar growth. Eventually, Jeff led WS’s experienced team to build the construction division to achieve more than $10 million in annual sales.

The WS team continues our long-held commitment to always doing the right thing. It’s a mindset that applies to all facets of the company, from taking care of our people to servicing customers.
